I have heard the closed port have more power but never heard the comparison between the open port The ebay 268 was good compression but non running, figured it'd be good just to have extra parts such as covers and handles and the like They were called 268special and had the larger starter cover decal as on the 272xp

So where in the transition does that leave my 268xp special

Just curious, as mine has a closed port jug instead of the open port version. The closed port 268 actually has a higher power rating than the 272 But the.2 hp is not easy to notice We run a 24 full comp on a stock 268 and it's not too bad

But i agree that it's a lot happier with a 20 You get that wrong, the 268xp was rated at 3.5 kw/4.8 hp, and the 272 at 3.8 kw/5.2 hp The open port 268 was rated at 3.2 kw/4.4 hp. I understood that the husqvarna 268 xp was a professional saw, untill i went to the husky dealer and was told that they never made a 268 xp only a 272xp because the 268 was a homeowner open port version, and the 272 was the pro model with scavenged loop (closed ports)

Now here is my problem, i.

The 268 is an open port saw, same cylinder as the 66 The 268xp is closed port like the 266, but there are porting differences as well as the filter/carb All are the same displacement. I have a couple rough condition 268's, both with xp tops, but i am not sure what the serial suffixes indicate, since there were a few different 268 models.
